Emergency help for real life.

The Opportunity Fund provides direct financial assistance for things that most social safety net programs (food stamps, childcare vouchers, Section 8, etc.) don't cover.

It exists to remove the barriers that stand between Compass families and household stability — because when life gets hard, you shouldn't have to face it alone.

Many factors go into each decision, including the category of request, level of need, urgency, and the hardship created if the need goes unmet.

A wide range of needs.

  • Rent, mortgage & utility payments
  • Car purchase or repair
  • Debt consolidation
  • Medical bills
  • Books, classes & education costs
  • Extracurricular opportunities for children
  • Other essential expenses

Not sure if your need qualifies? Apply anyway and we'll figure it out together.

Pathways family receiving financial assistance support

What we consider when reviewing applications

Category of request What type of expense is being covered and how it fits our guidelines
Level of need How critical this assistance is to the family's stability right now
Urgency How time-sensitive the situation is — shutoffs, evictions, etc.
Impact if unmet How significantly the family's health, safety, or finances would be affected
Do I need to visit the Trustee first?
No. You do not need to visit the Trustee before applying to the Opportunity Fund.
My utilities are shut off — can Pathways help?
Most likely, yes. Utility shutoffs are exactly the kind of urgent situation the Opportunity Fund exists for. Apply as soon as possible and our team will review your application quickly.
Why are applications sometimes turned off?
With limited funding each month, available spots fill up very quickly. This is beyond our control, and we truly wish we could help every applicant.

If you're ever shut out, please reach out to our FRC team — we can help connect you with other resources, referrals, and budget planning support.
Can I rely on this fund every month?
The Opportunity Fund is designed for emergency situations, not as a regular source of income. That said, we encourage you to apply any time a lack of personal funding will impact your health, safety, or financial stability.

If you're looking for longer-term financial coaching and support, our Your Path program may be a great fit.

You deserve support. Let's get started.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Our team is here to help Compass families navigate every step of the process.
